On 9 December 2025, research firm BloombergNEF published its annual survey of lithium-ion battery prices. It found that the average battery pack cost $108 per kilowatt-hour in 2025, the lowest level the survey has recorded, even though the price of some battery metals went up during the year.
Key facts
The volume-weighted average pack price fell 8% from 2024 to $108 per kWh.
Packs for stationary storage saw the steepest drop, down 45% to $70 per kWh.
Packs for battery electric cars averaged $99 per kWh, below $100 for the second year running.
Packs using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry averaged $81 per kWh, against $128 for nickel-based NMC packs.
Why it matters
BNEF says record-low battery prices create an opportunity to lower the cost of electric vehicles and to build more grid-scale storage, which helps power grids absorb solar and wind energy. Cheaper batteries therefore support both cleaner transport and cleaner electricity.
Worth noting
Prices vary a lot by region: packs in China averaged $84 per kWh, while North America and Europe paid roughly 44% and 56% more. BNEF expects a further decline in 2026, but rising raw-material costs could slow the pace.
